City Water Director Says Norfolk Water Safe
NORFOLK - A pair of City of Norfolk water samples earlier this month detected the presence of coliform bacteria, but the city’s water director says subsequent negative tests indicate that the city’s water is safe. Norfolk City Water and Sewer Director Dennis Watts says on June 3rd two of six samples collected in the city tested positive for coliform, an indicator organism that if found in a sample triggers tests for other bacteria. Watts, says Water Department workers then re-tested the samples, which turned out to be negative. Watts says he’s almost certain that the initial positive readings were the result of human error, which could have been caused by improper sampling techniques, contaminated sample bottles or laboratory error.
