Coleridge World War II Vet to be Honored
COLERIDGE - Representatives from the U.S. Navy and the office of Senator Mike Johanns will decorate a Coleridge World War II veteran Wednesday, nearly 70 years after he last saw combat. Navy officials will present 98-year-old Gilbert Brummels with nine medals including the four Bronze Stars during a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the Coleridge Fire Hall - 211 East Broadway Street - beginning at 1:00. Brummels’ family members contacted Senator Johanns’ office and asked for help in obtaining the much-deserved awards. Brummels served for four years in the Pacific during the Second World War.
