Early Morning Fire Damages Norfolk Home

NORFOLK - A Norfolk family was able to escape an early morning fire that caused about $50,000 damage to their home. Fire Division Captain John Reding says fire crews were summoned to 308 North 12th Street at 4:45 this morning. Walt and Dawn Wagner and their children were able to exit the building uninjured. Reding says the fire appears to have started near the fireplace chimney, but the cause remains under investigation.  Reding says the fire was contained to the attic area and roof, and firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for several hours for smoke and fire overhaul, investigation and securing the building.  Other agencies assisting at the fire scene were the Norfolk Police Department, Hadar Fire Department, NPPD, Red Cross and Black Hills Energy.
