Earth Day Riverfront Cleanup Saturday

NORFOLK - Volunteers are needed this Saturday for the annual Earth Day Greenway Cleanup along the North Fork River.  The Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce Green Council is partnering with the Norfolk Riverfront Development Project on the beautification efforts.  The Green Council’s Special Events Manager, Monica Rotherham asks volunteers to meet at Johnson’s Park - at the intersection of 1st Street and Nebraska Avenue - Saturday morning at 8:45.  Rotherham says volunteers will begin north of the old Alco building and work their way toward the rail bridge.  Work is scheduled from 9 to noon and will include cleearing trees, removing trash and using a wood chipper.  Covidien and Affiliated Foods will feed the volunteers with a barbecue at Johnson’s Park beginning at noon.  Walk-ins are welcome, but organizers would like you to pre-register in order to get an idea for the amount of food needed.  You can sign up at the Chamber building: 609 West Norfolk Ave. or by calling (402) 371-4862.
