GOP Candidates for Governor Debate at Johnny Carson Theatre

NORFOLK - Nebraska’ six Republican gubernatorial candidates took their places on the stage of Norfolk’s Johnny Carson Theatre Wednesday night fore thier final scheduled debate before the May 13th primary.  Each candidate took his turn answering questions from a panel of media representatives and high school students.  While all articulated similar views on many of the issues from favoring lower property taxes and reduced spending, to opposing same-sex marriage and Medicaid expansion; they used their closing statements to try to set themselves apart from the other hopefuls.  The Norfolk Daily News, Norfolk Senior High and the Nebraska Republican Party sponsored the debate.  It was the final of three such forums staged the state GOP.  The candidates met earlier this year in Papillion and Broken Bow.  GOP gubernatorial candidates are State Attorney General John Bruning, State Auditor Mike Foley, State Senators Tom Carlson and Beau McCoy, Omaha businessman Pete Ricketts and Gering attorney Bryan Slone.
