Governor honors state's top ACT, SAT scorers

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Gov. Dave Heineman has honored 15 Nebraska high school seniors who garnered perfect scores on the ACT or SAT college admissions exams.  Heineman traveled to Omaha's Central High School on Wednesday for the ceremony, and was joined by Nebraska Education Commissioner Roger Breed and representatives of the ACT and SAT.  The ACT contains mandatory math, science, reading, and English sections and an optional essay section. Each section is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, and a perfect overall score is 36.  The SAT consists of critical reading, mathematics and writing sections. Each section receives a score on the scale of 200 to 800, for a top possible score of 2400. Only one Nebraska senior received a top score on both the ACT and SAT: Marika Svolos of Central High School.
