Husker Football Players to Play Basketball in Norfolk

NORFOLK - In a tradition that dates back to the national championship years of the early 1970s, senior members of the University of Nebraska football team spend the spring months traveling around the state to play basketball.  The Husker seniors will be in Norfolk Friday night for a game against the Norfolk Hometown Heroes.  Event coordinator, Mark Clausen, says there are really three purposes for the game: to say goodbye to the senior football players; to honor Norfolk's hometown heroes, including veterans, firefighters, police officers, state patrolmen, teachers and coaches; and to raise funds for the Noon Optimists' youth activities.  Clausen says close to a dozen former Husker football players are expected, including C.J. Zimmerer, Brent Qvale, Ron Kellogg, and Jeremiah Sirles.  The game is scheduled for Friday night at 7.  Doors open at 5:30.  Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.  The players will be available for autographs following the game.
