Madison County Commissioners begin process of replacing county defender
MADISON - The Madison County Board of Commissioners has agreed to a process to replace the county's public defender. Last month, the current public defender Melissa Wentling resigned, effective July 26th. After a brief discussion, the commissioners, Lee Klein, Jerry McCallum and Christian Ohl, unanimously agreed to start the application process and to conduct interviews later this month. Madison County Clerk Nancy Scheer says an ad will appear in the Norfolk Daily News and set a deadline for applications. The commissioners would like to fill the position as quickly as possible. Scheer says a special meeting will likely be scheduled for sometime during the week of July 22nd where the commissioners will conduct interviews, which will be open to the public. State statute requires the board to fill the position within 45 days.
