Neligh 7th grader in D.C. for spelling bee

NORFOLK - A 7th grader from Neligh is in Washington, D. C. this week for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  Antonio Lansang won the Midwest competition in Omaha to earn the right for the national appearance. The 13-year-old is the son of Zoilo Lansang, who is completing his family medicine residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Agnes Lansang, a medical technologist at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.  Tuesday, Antonio took part in the computer spelling and vocabulary test. Scores from that will be combined with today’s on-stage rounds to determine which spellers advance to tomorrow’s semi-fnals.  Thursday's competition will be televised on ESPN2 from 1 until 4 p.m.  The finals in the National Spelling Bee will be Thursday night, with the winner receiving more than $30,000 in cash and prizes.
