Neligh Teen Fails to Advance at Spelling Bee
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A 13-year-old from Neligh is headed home after failing to advance at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Antonio Lansang aced his two oral round words and vocabulary questions, but his overall score in the preliminaries was not high enough to join the top 41 spellers in today’s semifinals. Results from the two oral rounds were combined with scores from a computer test that contestants took on Tuesday. Spellers could earn up to 36 points in the preliminary rounds. Antonio earned 27. As a 7th grader, Antonio is eligible for next year’s contest, and he said he might try again. Antonio attends Neligh-Oakdale Public Schools.
