Norfolk City Council approves emergency amendment

NORFOLK - Following city staff recommendations, the Norfolk City Council approved an emergency amendment for an engineering firm to inspect, analyze and develop a short-term solution for the structural damage to one of the city’s water storage tanks.  The city’s Public Works Director Dennis Smith says water department workers were performing routine maintenance on one of the million-gallon storage tanks at the west water treatment plant and discovered severe corrosion to some of the rafters that hold up the tank’s roof. A representative from the engineering firm Black and Beach, Corp. will take a look at the tank Friday.  Smith says workers will make some short-term repairs to get through the summer watering season, after-which long-term repairs will be made.  Smith doesn’t expect the situation to have much, if any impact on the service provided to the city’s water customers.
