Norfolk Fire Chief honored for heroism

NORFOLK - Norfolk Mayor Sue Fuchtman honored Fire Chief Scott Cordes and his wife Laura for saving the life of an Omaha woman last month.  The Cordeses were in Omaha to attend an engagement party for their daughter.  They were leaving a store at 108th and Fort Streets when they noticed a ruckus in a nearby parking lot.  A panic-stricken woman was searching for anyone who knew CPR.  Many people stood by but no one stepped forward until Chief Cordes arrived.  Cordes says he did not expect the woman to survive, but a little less than a week later, he received a call from the victim's sister-in-law.  She called Cordes her angel and explained that her sister-in-law is expected to make a full recovery.
