Norfolk firefighters extinguish house fire

NORFOLK -      The Norfolk Fire Division responded to a call last (Monday) night at around 8:30.  Firefighters encountered heavy smoke on the main floor and fire at the bottom of the basement stairs and basement rooms in a home at 1015 South 1st Street.  Norfolk Fire Division Inspector Dan Nelson says it took approximately 30 firefighters and 3 rigs about 30 minutes to control the fire and another 60 minutes to overhaul the structure.  The property is occupied and owned by Mark Keugar and his brother.  The  $80,000 home sustained approximately $45,000 in damage with another $20,000 to the contents.  There were no injuries to firefighters or the home’s occupants.
