Norfolk Leaders Question Governor on Roads

NORFOLK - Governor Dave Heineman was in Norfolk Monday to discuss the just-completed legislative session, but local leaders wanted to talk with him about roads.  Mayor Sue Fuchtman asked Heneiman to convince her that using bonding to accelerate road construction is not a good idea, and City Administrator Shane Weidner asked what Northeast Nebraskans could do to get the Highway 275 Expressway project pushed up on the prioirty list.  Heineman he favors is working on fewer roads so that they get completed, rather than rather than partially completing a greater number of roads.  Heineman said he believes LB84, which sets aside a portion of sales tax revenue for road projects, will help speed up road construction in the state.  And, he says a policy to work on fewer projects at a time to push more projects to completion will also benefit Nebraskans.  Heineman stopped at the Norfolk Regional Airport to meet with local citizens.
