Osborn: Budget cuts must be included in debt ceiling increase

OMAHA - Republican US Senate candidate Shane Osborn says Congress must not approve an increase in the national debt without insisting on budget cuts.  Osborn says it is only a matter of time before the growing debt spirals out of control.  He says Congress must take a hard look at what government should do and it must reform entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare.Osborn says the fiscal crisis in Washington results from a lack of leadership.   Osborn says that if interest rates rise, the country will have a hard time even paying the interest on a debt that now totals close to $17 trillion.  Osborn, the former State Treasurer and Norfolk native, is one of four GOP candidates in the race for the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Mike Johanns, who is not seeking re-election.  Others are Midland University President Ben Sasse, Omaha businessman Bart McLeay and Pinnacle Bank President Sid Dinsdale.
