After further review, Nebraska is changing public address announcers for football games again.  Jon Schuetz, who was recently hired to call games this upcoming season, is out.  Lane Grindle will take over the duties, according to a release from the university.  Schuetz told KETV TV yesterday the university contacted him about a Facebook post he made in which he was critical of the school's handling of Bo Pelini's firing.  The post has since been taken down.  Grindle is no stranger to Big Red fans.  He is currently a member of the Husker IMG Sports Network team, and has served as sideline reporter during football games.  Grindle, who also helps with play by play for NU baseball games, will continue his pregame and postgame football duties for the Husker Sports Network.  He will serve as sideline reporter during road games.  Steve Taylor, also with the Husker IMG Sports Network, will served as sideline reporter at Nebraska's home games.

News Briefs:

Norfolk’s mayor and others are asking both sides in the Norfolk hospital dispute to meet with them to try to mediate the disagreement. An editorial in Tuesday's Norfolk Daily News says Mayor Sue Fuchtman, Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce President Mark Zimmerer, Daily News Editor Kent Warneke and two longtime businessmen have asked to meet with Faith Regional CEO Mark Klosterman, Faith Regional Board President Anita Brenneman, the president of the Lutheran Community Hospital Association board of directors and the interim medical chief of staff. The goal of the meeting is to lay the groundwork and reach an agreement on how to proceed with mediated talks on the various issues now before the hospital and medical staff. Faith Regional has been embroiled in controversy since August 12th, when Dr. Joe Metcalf was fired and Dr. Chris Price was forced to resign.

The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed penalties of nearly a quarter-of-a-million-dollars for a Norfolk company. OSHA claims that MP Global Products tried to hide hazardous machines from federal inspectors and threatened to fire employees who complained about unsafe working conditions. The investigation involved a 65-year-old worker who lost one finger and severely damaged another when his hand was caught in a machine. As the result of the investigation into the March incident, OSHA has placed MP Global in the “severe violator enforcement program” and proposed a penalty of $244,000.  The company has 15 days to contest the findings.

Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer answered questions and commented on a number of topics Tuesday night from the Iran nuclear deal and immigration to education and Planned Parenthood. The evening was billed as a “community conversation” at Northeast Community College’s Cox Activities Center Theater. About 150 of her constituents were on hand. Fischer says Northeast Nebraskans are especially interested in federal highway legislation. She co-sponsored a six-year bill that passed the Senate just before the congressional recess, and expects the House to pass a long-term measure sometime in October.

Gov. Pete Ricketts has unveiled a new way to track the performance of Nebraska's economy, education, public safety, health and welfare. Ricketts announced Tuesday that the state will list various rankings on a public website to show Nebraska's strengths and areas that need improvement. Ricketts says the new tool is part of his push to apply business principles to state government.  The webpage is governor.nebraska.gov/statistics.

An Antelope County native has been named to lead the celebration of Nebraska’s 150th year of statehood. Regan Anson, a native of Brunswick, began her duties today as the executive director of the statewide celebration. Anson has been the director of marketing and communications at Peru State College since 2006. Before that, she was the deputy communications director for former Governor Mike Johanns, and communications director for former Attorney General Jon Bruning.
