The Dallas Cowboys are going to the playoffs for the first time since 2009 after Tony Romo threw four of the Cowboys' five touchdown passes in a 42-7 laugher against Indianapolis.  Romo was almost perfect yesterday, completing 18 of his 20 passes for 218 yards and no interceptions before sitting out the fourth quarter.  He broke Troy Aikman's team record for passing yards as the Cowboys clinched the NFC East while ending Philadelphia's playoff hopes.

Colin Voss had 16 points and eight rebounds to help North Texas hold on and beat Creighton 62-58 yesterday.  The Bluejays nearly overcame a 17-point deficit, using a 31-6 run capped by back-to-back three pointers by Toby Hegner and Isaiah Zierden, to pull within 57-55 with 1:19 left but couldn’t get closer.  Creighton couldn't answer, missing four three-point attempts.  Taylor then made four more from the line to seal it for the Mean Green.  Hegner scored 13 points to lead three players in double figures for the Bluejays.  Creighton drops to 9-4 while the Mean Green improve to 6-4.

A Norfolk man will lead the Nebraska State Home Builders Association for the first time in the organization's more than 50-year history. The NSHBA installed Don Wisnieski as its President earlier this month.  The NSHBA is the voice of the building industry in Nebraska and provides education and information to government officials, their members and the people of Nebraska.

A Columbus man has been sentenced to 10 to 14 years in prison for the shooting death of a Norfolk teenager in 2011. 24-year-old Daniel Hofmann was sentenced Thursday in Pierce County District Court. He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in October, when he admitted to shooting his friend, 18-year-old Wesley Kuester, in April 2011. Three other charges were dropped as part of the deal. Authorities say Hofmann shot Kuester with a shotgun while they were playing with guns after drinking. Hofmann had faced up to 25 years in prison.

An Omaha man accused of choking his son at a Norfolk wrestling meet has been sentenced to 120 days in jail for the January incident. Thirty-eight-year-old DeAndrew Stapleton was also sentenced Friday in Madison County District Court to two years' probation. Stapleton pleaded guilty earlier this year to a charge of strangulation. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a second felony child abuse charge. Police said they believed Stapleton had been drinking when he grabbed his teenage son by the neck following the match. Other adults intervened, and the boy vomited after Stapleton let go of his neck. At his sentencing, Stapleton tearfully apologized to his children. His attorney said Stapleton completed anger management and parenting courses.

The last of four finalists for the presidency of the University of Nebraska wrapped up a four-day last week of all four NU campuses. She leads or is active on a number of federal committees related to science, federal research assistance and electronic government, and works closely with academic, small business and scientific communities. The other finalists who all visited Nebraska earlier include Dr. George Ross, president of Central Michigan University. Dr. Hank Bounds, commissioner of higher education for the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning and Dr. Michael Martin, chancellor of the Colorado State University System.

Pilger has received a donation of 50 flags and 10 decorative cases to help replace what was lost in the June 16 tornado. Lt. Gov. John Nelson and officials from Woodman of the World presented the flags to Pilger officials Friday to replace ones the town used for ceremonies at its cemetery. The city's previous flags were stored inside city offices that were heavily damaged by the storm. Pilger Village Clerk Kim Nieman says the new flags will look beautiful at the cemetery. Midwest Bank of Pilger also gave the town a check for $400. The bank collected individual donations to help replace the lost flags.
