Doc Rivers will be the next coach of the Los Angeles Clippers if the NBA approves the rare but not unprecedented trade of an active coach.  A Boston Celtics official told The Associated Press last night that the deal would bring Boston a first-round draft pick in 2015 in compensation for Rivers.  He has three years and $21 million left on his Boston contract.  Rivers took over the Celtics in 2004 in the midst of the longest title drought in franchise history.  The Celtics won the NBA title in 2008, made it to the finals in 2010, but now face a rebuilding program.

The College World Series best of three finals get underway this evening at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha at 7:00 as UCLA meets Mississippi State.  The 47-17 Bruins go into tonight having produced just eight runs in their last three games.  The 51-18 Bulldogs have been the best-hitting team at the College World Series, with a .297 average.  UCLA sends 9-3 Adam Plutko to the hill versus Mississippi State’s Trevor Fitts.  Fitts, who doesn't have a decision, will be making only his sixth start of the season in 18 appearances.  Mississippi State will be playing for their first national championship while UCLA will be looking for their first title in baseball.

The last time the state's Match Play Championship was conducted at the Columbus Elks Country Club was 2001 when the match play bracket was expanded from 32 golfers to 64.  Pete Godwin of Omaha topped defending champion, Knox Jones of Lincoln in a thrilling 36-hole final.  This year's championship begins today with an 18-hole stroke play qualifier to determine the 63 golfers that will compete in the match play portion.  Tomorrow features first round matches with second and third round matches Wednesday.  Quarterfinals and semifinals are Thursday with a 36-hole Final Friday.  Involved in the competition from Northeast Nebraska include Norfolk’s Lance Lawson, Matt Lenser, & Todd Pospisil.
