Walter Pitchford and Shavon Shields each scored 17 points last night, and Nebraska's defense held off Indiana's second-half rally for a 70-60 victory. The Cornhuskers have won seven of eight and this one strengthened their resume for the NCAA's selection committee. It's also the first time in six tries Nebraska has won in Bloomington. Pitchford also added nine rebounds. Indiana was led by Troy Williams with 18 points and Will Sheehey with 13 but it wasn't enough to avoid a second straight Senior Night loss. Nebraska improves to 18-11 overall and 10-7 in the Big Ten while Indiana drops to 17-13 overall and 7-10 in the conference.

Authorities Bellevue continue to search for a missing 16-year-old girl. The Bellevue Police Department said at a news conference that officers are looking for Michaela Wells. Her parents say they last saw their daughter Sunday night as she went outside to take out the trash. A police report was filed Monday night. Chief Mark Elbert said there's no evidence that indicates Michaela was taken against her will, but it hasn't been ruled out. Michaela's parents say the girl was in a dress coat but left behind her wallet and cell phone. Police are searching the girl's electronics to see if there are any clues to her whereabouts.
Agricultural land values in Nebraska have climbed 120 percent in six years, and cash rents have climbed right along with them. Platte County Extension Educator Allan Vyhnalek says a new survey of cash rents is expected in a few weeks, but he isn’t looking for a price reduction just yet. Vyhnalek says it is a question of supply and demand, and the demand for rental property is just too strong right now for cash rents to recede. He says some farmers paying those high rental rates will have trouble operating in the black this year.
Psychology students at the University of Nebraska Medical Center are serving doctoral-level internships in other states and choosing to stay there rather than practice in Nebraska. That’s according to State Senator Amanda McGill of Lincoln. McGill has introduced a bill that would fund internships to attack what McGill calls a “drastic shortage of mental health professionals.” McGill says only 18 percent of mental health professionals serve rural Nebraska. She says the shortage negatively impacts the state's school and prison systems. McGill’s bill - LB 901 - would require the University of Nebraska Medical Center to fund five one-year doctoral-level internships that would increase to 10 within two years. The Unicameral last week advanced the bill to select file by a vote of 31-0.
Farmers and ranchers in Nebraska and throughout the country are being urged by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to log on to the Health Care Marketplace to learn about what plans are available. Vilsack says the Affordable Healthcare Act is an ideal plan for rural America. He says many producers have had to earn off-farm income in the pat to afford health care. Vilsack reminds farmers and ranchers that open enrollment ends March 31st.
