The Minnesota Timberwolves were engaged in serious Kevin Love trade talks with no teams other than the Cleveland Cavaliers yesterday, adding to the growing belief around the NBA that Love teaming up with LeBron James is inevitable, according to sources briefed on the situation.  After ESPN.com reported last week that the Cavaliers remain the front-runners to acquire Love in a trade co-headlined by top overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, sources this week have described the Cavs as the only team in contention for Love.

Texas A&M will announce Friday that Nebraska baseball assistant head coach Will Bolt will take an assistant coaching position with the Aggies according to the Lincoln Journal Star.  Bolt, a former Husker player, will join the A&M staff of Rob Childress, a former NU assistant coach.  Bolt was a volunteer assistant coach at A&M in 2006 and 2007.  He was named associate head coach at Nebraska in 2011.  Bolt was a four-year starter and a team captain on NU's 2001 and 2002 College World Series teams.

Omaha’s FXFL team has a team name.  They will be named the Mammoths.  The Omaha World Herald reports that the Fall Experimental Football League franchise chose a mammoth.  The mammoth disappeared from the American mainland about 10,000 years ago.  League Commissioner Brian Woods said the goal was to create a name and logo that would resonate with the squad’s fan base.  Other finalists were the Channel Cats and the Drive.  Woods said a coaching staff and team schedules will be released within two weeks.  Omaha will play its games this fall at TD Ameritrade Park.

News Briefs:

A collision involving a tanker truck hauling diesel and a pickup near Pierce caused the closing of Highway 13 from Hadar to Pierce for much of Wednesday afternoon and sent at least one of the drivers to the hospital. Officials responded to the accident at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday.  According to the Norfolk Daily News, a Nebraska State Patrol officer confirmed that the driver of the semi was taken to the hospital. The Norfolk Fire Division provided Haz Mat assistance. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

A Columbus woman had died after being stabbed, and police have arrested her grandson in connection with the killing. Columbus police say 58-year-old Deanna Micklevitz called for help Wednesday afternoon, saying she had been stabbed. She was taken to Columbus Community Hospital and then was flown to Bryan Health Medical Center in Lincoln, where she was pronounced dead upon her arrival. Columbus police arrested 19-year-old Chase Micklevitz.  Police say he will be charged with 2nd degree murder.

West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes caught in light traps in Norfolk, and citizens are urged to take extra precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Norfolk City Health Official John Kouba says West Nile symptoms include fever, headaches, body aches and skin rash.  Kouba recommends eliminating standing water in small containers like tires, bird baths and children’s wading pools. He says the city can suggest some options for larger bodies of water that cannot be drained easily, and anyone with questions may call his office at 402-844-2046.

The Norfolk Mayor and City Council met with several division heads Tuesday night during the first of three budgeting sessions this week. Public Works Director Dennis Smith said the biggest change to the proposed Engineering Division’s budget is the addition of a new staff engineer and a plan to bring the Street Division back under Public Works. Two more budget review sessions are planned this week: today at 1:30 pm and tomorrow morning at 8 am, both at the city office building: 305 North 5th Street.

No matter what your favorite song might be, you could hear it tonight during the final of this summer’s Music in the Park concerts, sponsored by the Norfolk Rotary Club. The 402 Band out of Omaha is a six-piece group performs a wide variety of music. The band's lead singer Eddie Brown says the group’s playlist includes music that ranges from The Police to Shania Twain and everything in between. Music in the Park runs from 6 until 9:30 tonight in Skyview Park. Those attending are urged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Wine and beer are allowed in designated areas. There is no charge for Music in the Park, but donations are appreciated to help defray expenses.
