School May Consider Co-Oping Policy Change

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Public Schools may consider a change in the policy concerning co-op sports.  At Monday night’s meeting, Tim and Tracy Jacobsen of Wisner asked that their daughter, Lauren, be allowed to take part in Norfolk High swimming. Lauren will be a freshman at Wisner-Pilger in the fall, and her mother, Tracy, told board members that Lauren had been a member of the Norfolk Aquajets for six years.  The current Norfolk Public Schools policy on co-oping sports limits participation to Norfolk Catholic and Lutheran High Northeast students who live within the Norfolk school district boundaries. In the 1990’s, however, the policy allowed for wider participation, and two Wisner-Pilger students were on the school swim team.  Since action on the item was not on the agenda for Monday night’s meeting, nothing official could be done, but the board seemed to agree that they would be willing to look at the co-op policy and see if an exception could be made for just the swimming team.
