Sen. Scheer Says Water Project Has Big Price Tag

NORFOLK - Norfolk State Senator Jim Scheer says he hasn’t seen too many bad ideas since he joined the Nebraska Unicameral last year – but he also doesn’t see any way to fund all of the good ideas.  Scheer was commenting on the proposal by the Water Sustainability Tax Force to spend $50 million a year on water projects. He says that is a big ticket.  Scheer says Senator Tom Carlson, head of the committee, is on both sides of the cut taxes and increase spending issue.  The committee has suggested taxing ethanol and soda pop to raise the money. Scheer says a tax on soda pop and bottled water was suggested last year to help fund state parks, and it was not well received.
