Girls State Golf Championships reach conclusion
The Girls State Golf Championships are in the books. In the Class 'A' competition at the Norfolk Country Club, Grand Island was the team champion with a 360. They won by eleven strokes. Miranda Keeler of Bellevue East was the medalist shooting an 80. She won by five strokes. Norfolk High's Samantha Bruening carded a 99. The event was a one-day competition after being canceled due to rain on Monday. In Class 'B' at Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln, Scottsbluff was the team champion with a 705. They won by ten strokes. Megan Vetrovsky of McCook was the medalist shooting a 164. She won by four strokes. In the Class 'C' competition at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Minden won a three-team playoff with Columbus Scotus & Grand Island Central Catholic. All three teams shot 406. O'Neill finished fourth with a 417. Wayne carded a 430, Boone Central shot 433, Pierce put up a 439, and West Point-Beemer finished with a 448. Auburn's Hannah Brown shot an 80 to win medalist honors. Columbus Scotus' Amy Price tied for third with a 91, West Point-Beemer's Lacie Fox & Columbus Lakeview's Kelsey Bignell shot 93 to tie for fifth place, and Norfolk Catholic's Ashlen Pospisil tied for eleventh with a 96. The event was a one-day competition after being canceled due to rain on Monday.
